This research project was developed to address key challenges faced by Sri Lankan rice farmers throughout the cultivation lifecycle. Conducted as a group of four members under the supervision of two university lecturers, the project aimed to provide farmers with a digital solution powered by deep learning and mobile technology.
The system focused on four major problems:
Each problem was addressed using separate CNN-based machine learning models, which were integrated into a single mobile application. The solution achieved 94.5% accuracy in rice variety identification and 92.3% accuracy in rice quality grading. The application was built using React Native for the mobile frontend,Spring Boot for backend services, and MongoDB for data storage. The CNN models were integrated via a Flask-based web API.
My Contribution: Responsible for the disease detection component, developing and training the CNN model to identify crop diseases from images. Also contributed to backend integration, ensuring smooth communication between the mobile app, Flask API, and the database.
